Um, just in case anyone is as obtuse as I am, there's a nifty feature in iTunes that, once you select a song, lets you "convert selection to mp3". It turns a 25MB QT movie file into an 8MB (@256kbps) mp3 file. And it sounds great.

Thanks Tom.

Hey there,

I know your process works, because I had some flac files to convert a few months ago and did it no problem. This time, I think I erred somewhere... all my flac files are now QT movie files, about 5x bigger than an mp3. What did I do wrong? (Oh, there's a new version of XiphQT so that may be an issue...)

.dmg files are only for users of the macintosh operating system (for example Mac OS X). you can't execute .app files in windows xp neither. this guide is only for mac, thats where itunes came from :D

Having trouble mounting the .dmg file. I am using XP - is that the issue? If so, is there a simple workaround?

if you know how to mount a .dmg file ... like double-click it, you should see 4 files in the mounted image:

COPYING.txt
Clear OggS.app
ReadMe.txt
Set OggS.app

if not ... you may use an other browser to download the file (like safari). next steps should be simple from that on ... your <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dock_%28computing%29" rel="nofollow">dock</a> is the bar down there with all the little icons on it :) you simply drag it into that place and you are done ...

Hi,

I am fumbling with: “Last get the set-OggS tool (its the set-OggS-0.1.dmg ) and place the “Set OggS.app” in your dock or somewhere else where you can easily drop files to.” Well, i can get the dmg file but the rest escapes me. I don’t see the OggS.app file and don’t understand what it means to place it in your ‘dock.’

Can someone simplify for me? I am none technical, but anything to open itunes to flac.

Many thanks

Actually, further to my previous comments ref the lack of artwork. iTunes will add artwork automatically if:
+ You are signed into your iTunes account (you do have one don't you?)
+ The album is available in iTunes
You can also choose get artwork manually. If not - no album artwork and the 'Album art not modifiable. I can't see a way of getting iTunes to accept artwork for files not in the iTunes store. I've tried a few ways but no luck. Does anybody have any ideas?

I finally got it working, apart from a few problems...

+ I can’t seem to apply artwork to files - i get the message ‘album art not modifiable’

+ Some tags don't come across e.g. ‘year’ tag

Any ideas for fixes?
